An extensive collection of 127 drawings and watercolours by the little-known artist, Mrs. Marie S. Cooper. Marie Cooper resided and maintained her primary studio in West Bromwich and exhibited 5 works at the Royal Birmingham Society of British Artists, between 1886-97.

The watercolours focus mainly on landscapes in the region of Milford, West Bromwich and surrounding areas but they also extend to other parts of the UK, Wales and the continent. Subjects include studies of trees and buildings including ruins and marine scenes. Only one watercolour is signed by the artist, and various initials can be found on the backs of other drawings.

During the late 19th century, West Bromwich and the broader Black Country region had a growing art scene tied to the industrial wealth of the Midlands. Since she primarily exhibited at the nearby Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, her work was likely highly regarded at a regional level. Female artists of this era commonly specialized in high-quality watercolours, domestic genre scenes, landscapes, or intricate flower and still-life paintings.
