Oil on canvas laid on board. Signed, IWILL (bottom right), also indistinctly inscribed with a name followed by hommage (bottom left). A further inscription written in ink (on reverse) reads, Last Lights-(Bayou?) 1908. Displayed in its original Art Nouveau frame.


Iwill, Marie-Joseph-Léon Clavel (French / 1850-1923)

Marie-Joseph-Leon-Clavel took the surname “I Will” to represent his will and effort as an artist. He exhibited in many salons, including the Universal Exposition, the Society of French Artists. He received many awards and medals for his works. He won “Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur” in 1894. Museums: Amiens; Beziers; Castres; Chateauroux; Cherbourg; Lisieux; Paris (Modern Art); Perigueux; Reims; Rochefort.
