Mc Cance, William (1894-1970)

Painter, typographer, sculptor teacher and writer, McCance was born in Cambuslang, near Glasgow. He studied at Glasgow School of Art, and spent most of World War 1 imprisoned as a conscientious objector. In the early 1920s he carried out abstract works with a strong cubist influence. He married Agnes Miller Parker and, between them, they designed and illustrated many fine books.
