Wingfield, James Digman (1800–1872)

James Digman Wingfield painted landscapes, genre and historical subjects, interiors, and park scenes. For more than 30 years, he exhibited at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, and the Society of British Artists. He lived primarily in London’s Bloomsbury district before moving to Chelsea. In July 1872, a few months after his death, Christie, Manson & Wood (now Christie’s) arranged the sale of his studio. The sale included numerous copies he had made of works by Old Masters, an area in which he evidently excelled.
