An indistinct inscription written on a piece of paper attached to the reverse of the frame partly reads: ??? To The Parishioners ?? Eton and Se?? ???-. The painting is in very good original condition, unexamined out of frame

Farmer, Walter (1870-1947)

Walter Farmer was born in Nottingham, England in 1870. He was a self-taught artist. Between 1897 and 1932 he exhibited frequently at Nottingham Castle Museum. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy in London; and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. He was elected a member of the Nottingham Society of Artists (NSA) in 1908; and was Vice President of the Nottingham Society of Artists (VPNSA) in 1914-19. He lived at Car Colston, East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire and died in 1947.
