The drawing is to be sold without a frame or mount and is protected by a clear polyester sleeve used widely by paper conservators. It is evident from the light area on the right that the drawing has been mounted in the past. The fashion and style of the hair are typical of the 1960s which fits with the time John spent at the Royal Academy Schools.
John entered into the Academy in 1959 with the encouragement of his friend the artist, John Ward. In his final year in 1962, he won a drawing prize and married his fellow student Carolyn Cann. He managed to produce a large body of work but particularly excelled in drawing.
