Description

This study is one from a collection of 10 drawings and two oil sketches we are selling. We believe all the works are by the same artist that date from the middle part of the 19th century. The studies appear to form part of a composition for a large history painting or perhaps a mural for a church or cathedral. Unfortunately, only one of the drawings gives us a tantalising clue as to the identity of the artist. There are two names that appear on one of the drawings titled, ‘Study of a Head of a Woman’, the first is ‘Emilia Lotti’, and the second is J? Marco.

The collection comprises of studies of heads, figures, and drapery with compositions for the nativity and crucifixion. All works are undoubtedly by an accomplished artist working from a country within Europe, possibly Italy or Germany.
