A fine monochrome ink drawing in pen and point of brush on light buff wove paper. The drawing has an impressed line border and is presented in a new mount. Inscribed in Swedish on the backboard of the original frame, translated: A Rainy Afternoon (My penmanship. E.W.ff.) – To Helena Werdenhoff 1919 (The artist’s wife). – (later inscribed), To Ellen Blackledge 1977.

Erik August Werdenhoff , born 11 May 1864 at Hornsberg, Tryserum parish, Kalmar county, died 1947 at Lidingö, he was a Swedish engineer and watercolourist. Married 1909 to Helena Strandberg (née Werdenhoff) (1881-1968). They had three children including Barbro Margareta Werdenhoff (b. 1911, death unknown) Married, 1944 to James Peter Blackledge (b. 1915, death unknown).

Erik August Werdenhoff , born 11 May 1864 at Hornsberg, Tryserum parish, Kalmar county, died 1947 at Lidingö, was a Swedish engineer and watercolourist . He was the son of court chamberlain Frans August Werdenhoff and Lovisa Amalia Lidén and from 1909 married to Helena Strandberg (1881-1968), they had 8 children. Werdenhoff attended Norrköping Technical School 1881–1884 and was employed as an engineer at the Motala workshop 1884–1899 and at Surahammar's mill 1899–1914 before becoming a consulting engineer. Alongside his work, he was active as an artist and participated in some exhibitions. Daughter of the district doctor in the said city with licentiate Hans Strandberg and Hilda Christina Strömstén. Children: 1. Hans Jost , born 1910-09-30 in Stockholm, died there 1920-02-23, Oscar's first. 2. Barbro Margareta , born 1911-12-19 at Surahammars bruk in Sura parish, Västmanland county, Sura fors, Västm. (Cote Row, Rydal, Westmorland, England). Married 1944-04-18 to James Peter Blackladge , born 1915-07-28. British attaché to the Holy See, Rome. 3. Ulla Christina , born 1913-11-17 at Surahammars bruk Sura förs, Västmanland County. Married 1946-06-01 in Stockholm to Ivar Dahlgren , born 1909-05-14 in Danderyds förs, Stockholm County. Former official in the Swedish Grain Trade (Danderyd).
