A fine monochrome ink drawing in pen and point of brush on light buff wove paper. The drawing has an impressed line border and is presented in a new mount. Inscribed in Swedish on the backboard of the original frame, translated: A Rainy Afternoon (My penmanship. E.W.ff.) – To Helena Werdenhoff 1919 (The artist’s wife). – (later inscribed), To Ellen Blackledge 1977.

Erik August Werdenhoff , born 11 May 1864 at Hornsberg, Tryserum parish, Kalmar county, died 1947 at Lidingö, was a Swedish engineer and watercolourist.

Erik August Werdenhoff , born 11 May 1864 at Hornsberg, Tryserum parish, Kalmar county, died 1947 at Lidingö, was a Swedish engineer and watercolourist . He was the son of court chamberlain Frans August Werdenhoff and Lovisa Amalia Lidén and from 1909 married to Helena Strandberg (1881-1968), they had 8 children. Werdenhoff attended Norrköping Technical School 1881–1884 and was employed as an engineer at the Motala workshop 1884–1899 and at Surahammar's mill 1899–1914 before becoming a consulting engineer. Alongside his work, he was active as an artist and participated in some exhibitions.
