Smart, Douglas Ion (1879-1970)

Douglas Smart was born in Hammersmith, London, the son of the painter Charles Ion Smart. The River Thames, beside which he lived most of his life was a frequent source of inspiration. He studied etching and engraving under Sir Frank Short. Exhibited at the R.A., R.E. and R.I., and was elected A.R.E. 1905, R.E. 1922. His work is represented in several public collecitons. Principal works include Thames' Derelicts, Limoges and St. Etienne, Toulouse.
