Arts & Crafts Embroidery (British c.1880-1910)

Out of stock

Arts & Crafts framed embroidery from the late 19th or early 1900s. The woolwork has been framed with a silk mount behind glass, with supports on the back of the frame, so it stands independently, a bit like a fire screen.

Image, or window of the mount: 19 3/4 x 7 1/8 in.
Frame: 31 1/4 x 14 3/4 in.

Description

The embroidery has been removed from the frame to clean the glass and refurbish the back. There are no inscriptions but it was interesting to find the name of a retailer written in pencil on a section of panelling holding the embroidery in the frame. The name is H. Morell 17 & 18 Great St. Andrew Street Bloomsbury, London. The V&A have two trade catalogues by this name from the 1880s to around 1910. They advertise all manner of goods including glass and picture frames.
