Wardle, Arthur (1864-1949)

Arthur Wardle was best known for his paintings of domestic and wild animals, as well as sporting scenes. He worked mostly in oils, but also used watercolours and pastels, a medium in which he made many wonderful studies of animals. A self-taught artist, Arthur Wardle’s first work was accepted for exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1880 when he was just sixteen years old, and he continued to exhibit his work until 1935 including at Suffolk Street and the New Watercolour Society.
