Harry Bright – The Owl Family 1883

The adult barn owl (Tyto alba) is perched on a mossy tree branch alongside chicks in a hollow nest. Signed and dated ‘Harry Bright 1883; pencil and watercolour heightened with white. Housed within a new mount in its original gilded frame.

Harry Bright (1846-1895) was highly celebrated in the late 19th century for his incredibly lifelike, detailed depictions of birds and their natural habitats. He was one of the most prominent natural history and ornithological painters of his generation. Published works include; Birds and Blossoms, 1879; A.B.C. of Pretty Birdies, 1896, Etc.
