Description

The scene in the painting depicts a man clothed in white, the man is carrying a container on his head while standing next to the corner of a house / hut, filled with potted plants. The tropical setting is likely to be in Jamaica, Trinidad or thereabouts in the West Indies.

Before becoming Reeves & Sons Ltd (1891-1976), Reeves & Sons (1830-1890) were manufacturing artist’s materials at 113 Cheapside, London (1845-1940). Therefore the painting must date from 1845 to 1890.
