With short bold strokes of the brush, the artist has managed to create a captivating image of this man sitting on a chair supposedly in the artist’s studio.
The loose canvas was bought in Russia without provenance sometime in the 80s and was simply rolled like a rug for ease of transport. After the picture arrived hear in the UK it had been mounted onto a good quality wooden stretcher and was kept in a private collection for many years. Just after we bought the picture we had it framed. The work may be a study by a student at an art school or perhaps a sketch from a more accomplished artist working on a commission.
