Signed N Braby and dated 97 (lower left). Red and white chalk on a light brownish yellow wove paper. There are two horizontal creases where the paper has been folded, one above the fringe, the other just above the top of the signature. Depending where the light is directed the creases do not notice. Otherwise, the condition is very good.

Braby, Newton (b.1870)

Newton Braby was a domestic and portrait artist, he was educated at the RA schools from July 1892 to July 1897. He lived at Teddington, Middlesex 1898; London 1907; and Kingston on Thames, Surrey 1910. He exhibited from 1898 to 1907. The greatest number of his works (13) were exhibited at the RA. Titles include; The Last Rose of Summer 1898; The Love Letter 1899; The Pursuit of Alchemy 1900; and The Cooking Lesson 1907. He also exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham (3); the London Salon (9); and the New Gallery (4).
