Pullinger, Diana (British, 1908-mid 1980s)

Pullinger was born in London and travelled to the Bahamas in the 1930s. Her famous screens, painted in 1957, depict the significant ages and social development of the islands since the arrival of Columbus. Divided into six parts — the Age of Discovery, The Lost Century, The Age of Colonization, The Age of Piracy, The Age of Emancipation and The Age of Development — the murals are one of the country’s earliest histories, and have been praised both for their intricate detail and narrative accuracy. She left Nassau in 1960 for Canada where she died in the mid-1980s. The Bahamas Historical Society published a booklet illustrating the work of Diana Pullinger in 'The History of the Bahamas in Pictures' with text by Peter Lawlor, Pub 2012
