Bates, Denise (1928-2001)

Painter, Muralist and needlework designer who attended Liverpool College of Art, 1946-48, then Byam Shaw School, 1948-53, gaining Award of Merit, 1952. She showed in mixed exhibitions at the RA, RCA, NEAC,RMS, Patricia Wells Gallery in Thornbury, Paris Salon and elswhere. Denise also held a number of solo exhibitions in Cheshire, where she lived at Malpas. She carried out mural commissions for S S Sylvania, the Imperial Institute and elsewhere; tempera commissions for Bunbury Church in Cheshire and Newport Church, Shropshire; and several church needlework designs. Lived at Haughton Thorn, near Tarporley, Cheshire.
