Description
In the most recent publication on the life and works of Barbosa, Lawrence Blackmore suggests that this watercolour was not used to illustrate any of the books of the period for which it has been painted. He goes on to say that it may well have been a rejected effort for a George Heyer cover, one of the Italian paperback reprints, or even something for Teresa Chris’s ‘Regency England’. Whatever its original purpose it is a fine example of the style, elegance and attention to detail that were the trademarks of Barbosa’s art.
