Description

During the time this picture was painted Nassau was a great tourist destination for the British and Americans, both currencies were accepted at the market where you could buy native flowers, tropical fruits and many curious objects including shells, sponges, birds, dogs and even live tarantulas.

There remains some marks which have proved too difficult to remove during conservation. A small piece of damaged paper (bottom centre right) has been secured and made less visible.
